Rainer GROSS DOUBLE TAKES - MADRAS – TWINS April 19 – May 18, 2025
Jean-Luc and Takako Richard are pleased to present Rainer Gross's fifth solo exhibition
Galerie Richard has been exhibiting the artist's work since 1990. This latest show displays several related bodies of work: MADRAS, DOUBLE TAKES – NYC, MADRAS – COLOGNE, and TWINS. The exhibit combines works on paper, digital photographic images, and traditional painting – both abstract and photographic work.
The new MADRAS series evokes the depth of a colorful weave. Juxtaposed layers of translucent, opaque and saturated paint creates a vibrant interplay. A chromatic dialogue immediately catches the eye. As always with Gross’s work, the layering process, created over time, is of paramount importance.
DOUBLE TAKES NYC are photo-based works on paper, depicting iconic New York City images layered and doubled. They are representational extensions of the TWINS body of work.
The abstract TWINS paintings consist of pure pigments and oil paint, in which the composition, hue and texture of the surface is reflected on side-by-side canvases, a technique perfected by the artist. By harnessing chance and random occurrences in the creation of his TWINS paintings, Gross relinquishes some control over the process.
